CAPITAL GAINS TAX CHANGES

From April 2024, the Capital Gains Tax allowance will plunge from the current £12,300 to a derisory £3,000. This will motivate UK residents to switch to UK gold coins (eg. Britannia's) as their legal tender status makes them Capital Gains Tax free (as well as being VAT free).

Our guide to easy GOLD investment

For thousands of years people have been investing in gold, it has always been synonymous with wealth and prosperity. Historically gold has been used for trading goods. Certainly in the last few years gold has been associated with jewellery and fashion. Physical gold offers investors the opportunity to spread their investment risk through a well-balanced portfolio. Gold has been a ‘safe bet’ when it comes to a small investment and the growth in scrap gold has been on the increase.

Since 2018, the price of gold has risen by 60.33% per ounce

Gold can be invested in at so many levels, and just a small amount of money can see growth.

Investing in gold is almost guaranteed a return over a good period of time, it’s not a quick investment but much more long term. Don’t expect to buy a gold coin and sell it again a few week later as it’s unlikely that you will see a rise, but over a few years that’s a different story. You need to view it as a high interest bank account that locks you in for a period of time. A good investment time would be 3 to 5 years. If you look at the graph we have created, you can see the trends and growth of gold over the last few years.

Where to start investing

The key area for investment in precious metals is Gold, but dipping your toe in the water, a great starting place is Silver. Silver has had a steady balanced growth over the years and has been a very sound investment, and it still is today. Investing in Silver should really be done with bars and coins, as they are small items that are pure. Scrap silver (old chains and rings) doesn’t have the collectability that the bars and coins have. Also silver coin sets can be very collectable and are great starting point.

Since 2018, the price of silver has risen by 49%

So as a staring point Silver is perfect. Over the last 20 years Silver has risen by 265%, so as a long term investment it’s superb. The only downside is the amount you need to have and keep if you have lots of money to invest, hence why serious investors tend to stick with Gold.

Our Gold & Silver selling page on this site gives you many options to invest in silver at all levels, with a simple silver coin to heavy silver bars. Silver jewellery is nearly always 925 Silver coins and bars are 999 (pure Silver).
